New Mexico State Parks

New Mexico is home to many state parks. These parks offer visitors a variety of outdoor and recreational activities, and are scattered throughout the "Land of Enchantment".

One popular New Mexico destination is Heron Lake State Park. This park is located eleven miles west of the town of Tierra Amarillo, near the Colorado border. The park sits around a calm, 5,900-acre lake and offers many activities, including boating, fishing, camping, and hiking. Visitors to this park can also take advantage of the visitor's center, RV sites, and restrooms with showers.

Another of New Mexico's favorite locations is Oasis State Park. This 196 acre state park can be found in the desert of eastern New Mexico near Cannon Air Force Base and the Texas border. A three acre lake provides outdoor enthusiasts with opportunities to fish, hike and picnic. Wildlife viewing is popular here also, with over eighty species of birds calling Oasis home. It's dry there: Oasis State Park only receives about seventeen inches of rain annually.

Coyote Creek State Park is another spot where nature lovers can experience the great outdoors. This park is located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, outside scenic Santa Fe and is an ideal place for families to experience fishing, camping, and nature hikes.

Indian Petroglyph State Park is located just outside Albuquerque, and offers a glimpse into the Native American cultures who once called New Mexico home.
