RVing Safety

Well it’s that time again when you hit the highway in your RV and head to destinations all over these United States. There are a few things you need to do first before hitting the road. You should do a thorough inspection of your RV before leaving. Inspect underneath the RV to make sure there are no leaks. Check under the hood and inspect your hoses and belts for wear and tear. Be sure to check your oil, transmission fluid and coolant levels.

Next, you will want to check your tire pressure. Properly inflated tires will extend the life of your tires and help with fuel savings. You will want to position your side mirrors for the best visibility. Electrical hook ups and turn signals need to be checked too.

Inside your RV make sure all doors and windows are locked. Make sure the weight is evenly distributed in the RV as this could throw your vehicle off balance. Equally important is to make sure your smoke detectors, propane leak detector and fire extinguishers are all in working order.

Now it’s time to hit the road. The most important issue now is to practice being a safe driver. Experienced RV drivers know you need to allow extra following distances because it takes more distance to come to a complete stop in your RV. Another sign of an experience RV driver is they allow plenty of room to make a turn. If you have to slow down tap your brakes to warn other drivers of your intentions.

When you decide to stop, pick out a campsite that has both trees and shrubbery. This will give you some protection from wind. Arrive in plenty of time to set up your camp site.
